Welcome to "The Bear Blog"

Hello everyone -- As written above, this blog is mommy's idea for keeping us all in-the-loop re. each other's lives.

I'm not computer savvy and I'm not entirely sure what a blog is let alone how to make one. That said, I think the idea of a family blog is a great one: "Definitely yes" is my answer to the survey below. Considering the time difference between me and everyone else -- i.e., the difficulty of finding a time to call when both you and I are semi awake -- this blog might benefit me most.

I also want you all to get to know Gidon. He is a bit computer shy, but I will force him with all my wifely charm to post something at least once a week. At the moment, the big achievement in our world is the purchase of a carpet -- well, not the purchase itself, but the fact that Gidon, for the first time in his life, bargained! We got 50 shekels off and Gidon now thinks he is the king. (Personally, I was more impressed by his ability to shlep the carpet all the way up Yaffa Street.)

What else?

Yesterday I bought a toaster so that I can make my usual wholewheat and PB breakfast. I'm trying to get back into normal eating habits pre moving to The Land of Endless Food. We are right off Emek Refaim which must be the worst location for the dieter. Even when I manage to do a real grocery shop, I'm never quite sure what I'm buying and, therefore, eating. Stores stock American products for people like me, but you pay a price: I saw a package of Shake-and-Bake for 10 dollars! A small container of Haagen-Daz goes for that as well.

Thankfully, Shabbos cooking hasn't been an issue. Gidon and I like to think we are Jerusalem's most popular couple as we've been invited out for just about every meal every shabbos. I enjoy these meals because it gives me a chance to meet new people, as well as a sense for the different areas in Jerusalem, the different kinds of Shabbos tables, etc. Yet I am still in search of friends who are female, my age, and without babies.

Anyway, I must go and get some work done today. I took out a few books from the Hebrew U library on Degas that I must read.

Lots and lots of love,
Your far flung bear
