meatballs and visas

Hello All, Just a quick hello to tell you what I'm up to. I spent most of the day frustrated re. work (i.e., the "dreaded D"), but spoke with Sherri who helped me out by listening. Tomorrow I must compose an email to my JHU advisers so that I can make progress. I'll be OK.

I spent most of the evening going through a phone list of American hospitals asking if they offer H-1 visas -- the kind of visa that doesn't get you deported from the country. I've found one hospital so far...

The big achievement of the day was a trip to the butcher, a first for me. I went with Avigayil Ullman, one of Gidon's friends, and she walked me through the experience. I brought my recipes with me to know what to ask for and Avigayil translated. It was a bit overwhelming and everything looked gross and brown. When I left, the butcher said to me: "Don't worry. It gets easier." Then I spent the evening rolling meatballs -- not as good as Susanne's (Gidon's mom), but a B+, Gidon ranked them.

I also made cauliflower and garlic bread. I am trying to fatten Gidon up. He now weighs only 20 pounds less than me.

He has spent the evening writing thank you cards. He is left-handed and writes funny. He says: "I will contribute to the blog as soon as I finish writing thank you cards. (Only 3,000 to go.) Or, as soon as Hyla learns my mother's meatball recipe. Whichever comes sooner."

Anyway, love to all. We are thinking of you. Far flung, me

  1. meatballs are a pain in the butt. next time buy a roast, pour some coke, ketchup and onion soup mix on it and cook.

  2. I love meatballs! I sort of think of them as a low-skill food: hard perhaps to make great (esp if you are competing with a mother's favorite) but hard to go WAY wrong...

  3. to get nice round balls dip your hands in cold water every few balls as you roll. the job goes faster.
hyla did you touch the meat, or did gidon roll the balls?
