the shuck, two shiurs, and lots of tichels

Hi All: Firstly, thank you mommy for clarifying why the mushroom soup only calls for 6 (dried) mushrooms. I bought a variety of dried mushrooms today at the shuk. And loads of other wonderful, wonderful looking ingredients. I'm really excited to experiment with some new recipes.
Devora: last night I made your pastrami/egg rice dish. Gidon loves it.

I bought dried cherries to make your barley recipe for Stuart. He likes healthy food and won't have pastrami, egg or rice.

Cooking aside: I went to 2 fabulous shiurs in 2 days: last night Aviva Zorenberg and today Leah Golub. The first was at the OU center and the second in some Carlebach-y basement in Nachlaot. Both brilliant women who worked directly with sources and just made the text come to life. I was so impressed and moved. I'm not sure that even the most brilliant academic lecture can move and/or inspire...

I threw a 'tichel party' at our place a few days ago for a friend who I studied with at Midreshet Rachel. In case you don't know what a tichel party is, it's basically a bunch of girls getting together, like a Henna party, and giving the bride-to-be tichels and putting them on her. I was kinda horrified at my first tichel party...wouldn't have imagined I'd ever be hosting one. Pics below:
